1. Data we collect and process
- Account data: name, email address, authentication token/session information.
- Flat and membership data: flat name, address, invite code, memberships, roles, join requests, and current-flat selection.
- Profile data: member profile details such as phone, emergency contact details, bank account details, and personal notes when provided by the user.
- Shared household data: chores, chore completions, shopping items, expenses, settlements, receipts, and activity log entries.
- Uploaded files: receipt files such as JPG, PNG, and PDF documents uploaded by users.
2. How we use data
- To create and authenticate user accounts.
- To let users create, join, and manage flats.
- To provide shared flatmate features such as chores, shopping, finance, receipts, notifications, and activity history.
- To protect access to private receipts and member-only flat data.
- To respond to support, privacy, and account deletion requests.
3. Data sharing
FlatNZ is designed for shared living, so some user data is visible to other authorised members of the same flat where necessary for the product to function. For example, members may see names, emails, member roles, shared chores, shopping items, finance entries, and activity records within their flat. FlatNZ does not state here that personal and sensitive user data is sold to third parties.
4. Data storage and security
FlatNZ uses authenticated access controls for account areas and protected API routes. Receipt files are handled through protected access paths. The mobile app stores the authentication token using secure device storage where supported.
5. Data retention and deletion
Users can request account deletion from within the mobile app and through the public account deletion web resource. Some data may need to be retained for legitimate reasons such as security, fraud prevention, audit history, shared-finance continuity, or regulatory compliance. Where full deletion is not immediately possible, FlatNZ may review and process deletion requests manually.
